from the albuquerque tribune:
Social Distortion
Sept. 28 at the Sunshine Theater
Social Distortion's music runs the gamut, from damnation to salvation and everything in between.
In fact, Mike Ness touched on several "-ations," alien and otherwise, throughout the night, and all resonated with the sold-out crowd.
Every song had a story behind it, and Ness regaled in explaining the genesis of his tunes.
He said one song was a "cautionary tale" ("Drug Train"), but truth be told, 80 percent . . . 90 percent, hell all the songs, save the instrumental opening number ("Road Zombie"), were cautionary tales, drawing from Ness' experience.
After the instrumental opener, the D went right at it with a searing cover of the Johnny Cash chestnut "Ring of Fire," Ness' autobiographical "Story of My Life" and new tune "Angels Wings." Mike Ness was Johnny B.
Goode this night, playing his guitar just like ringing a bell. Other highlights included "Prison Bound" and "Ball & Chain."
The concert felt good, too - real warm and fuzzy. You could feel the kick from the bass drum whenever the full band kicked in; the sonic rush made flesh tingle and vibrate
